Custom gates
Gates built on three hinges, off a 6x6 post
Walk, double, arched and custom-width gates, built to match the fence they hang in and to keep swinging square long after the install.
Chapter 01
The gate is the part of the fence that moves
A fence line stands still. A gate opens and closes every day, takes a latch slam, hangs its whole weight off one edge and gets leaned on by anyone carrying groceries. Your gate is the most used and most stressed part of the entire fence system, so it has to be built correctly from the start.
It is also where a cheap fence shows itself first. The run can look fine for years while the gate drops at the latch corner and drags a groove in the gravel. We build gates in Springdale, Rogers, Bentonville and the towns around them with that failure in mind, and we start by deciding what the gate hangs from.

A 6x6 post, three hinges, four-inch screws
Every gate hinges from a 6 inch by 6 inch post. Every gate swings on three hinges, not two. And we fasten those hinges with 4 inch screws instead of the standard 2 inch screws that come in the gate kits.
The post takes the pull of the swing, so it is the first thing to lean. A third hinge shares the load that two would carry between them. The longer screws reach into the post instead of only skinning its surface. None of it is complicated. It is just the part that gets skipped.
Chapter 03
Metal frames and latches that take a slam
A wide gate wants a steel skeleton inside it, and a latch that does not rack when it is slammed.
On gates that see daily traffic, we build in internal metal frames, heavy-duty hinges, reinforced latches and upgraded posts. A pine double gate on a welded steel frame, or shadow-box drive gates on black steel frames like the ones we hung in Elm Springs, will hold square across a drive in a way a bare wood frame will not. Metal-framed gates are an option, and we will tell you at the estimate when a gate needs one.
Wood gates still move with the weather. A frame keeps the gate in its opening while the boards do what boards do.
Arched, custom width, matched to the fence
We build single walk gates, double walk gates, custom-width openings and decorative arched gates, in wood and in ornamental iron, to match the fence they hang in. An arched black iron walk gate set between cedar privacy panels is a common pairing, and it starts with a carefully measured opening.
Tell us where the gates go before we start. That is the one thing we need confirmed on the day, and you do not have to be home as long as we have access. If a gate you already own is dropping or the latch has failed, our repair team handles that too. Every gate we install carries a one-year workmanship warranty.

“They did a great job installing a new gate and repairing my other two gates. I highly recommend Privacy Fence, Inc.”
A dropping gate is usually a repair, not a replacement. See fence and gate repair or look at the gates we have built around Northwest Arkansas.
