Ornamental iron

Ornamental iron fences, built on site across Northwest Arkansas

Flat top or spear top, 2-rail or 3-rail, 3 to 6 feet. Security you can see through, for front yards, pools, driveways and dogs, set on site to follow your ground.

Chapter 01

Flat top or spear: choose the line the fence draws

The first decision on an iron fence is the top edge. A flat top runs level and quiet, and it reads as part of the property instead of a statement on it. Spear top, extended picket and pinched picket styles put a pointed rhythm along the top, and with finials they look more formal. Neither is better. They are two different faces on the same black steel.

We build both across Springdale, Rogers, Bentonville and the towns around them, and we hang them on a frame that has to hold its line for years. Bring a photo of a fence you like, or look through our work first. Choosing from a real run in a real yard is easier than choosing from a catalog page.

Two rails or three decides how it ages

A 2-rail panel comes in 3, 4 and 5 foot heights. A 3-rail panel comes in 3, 4, 5 and 6 foot heights. The rails are the horizontal members the pickets are fastened to, and the taller the panel, the more weight hangs across that span. Past a certain height two rails stop being enough.

That is why we typically do not recommend a 5 foot 2-rail fence. It can sag. If you want 5 feet, ask about a 3-rail panel instead, and 6 feet is 3-rail only. Where the estimate calls for a rail count, you will hear the reason, not just the number.

Chapter 03

A grade, a pool or a dog changes the build

Iron follows a grade without stepping, and a rake bottom lets each panel tilt with the slope.

Northwest Arkansas yards roll, so most of our iron is set to a slope. A rake bottom keeps the pickets plumb while the base of the panel follows the ground, which avoids the big gap under the low corner. Every run is measured and set on site, so the panels fit your lot instead of a drawing.

Pool fences are a configuration job. We lay them out as pool-code compliant configurations, and at the estimate we walk the pool with you and confirm what your town requires before a post goes in. If you have a dog, tell us the size of the dog. Picket spacing and clearance at the bottom are choices, and they are easier to get right before the fence is built.

What the warranty covers and what to ask for

Every fence we install carries a one-year workmanship warranty. Select ornamental metal fences also carry a manufacturer's lifetime warranty, which is passed through to you directly. Select is the operative word. Not every metal system has it.

So ask at the estimate which system is on your quote and whether it is one of the lifetime-warranty fences. Then ask for that in writing. We handle the permit once the job is awarded and call Arkansas 811 before any hole is dug, so the iron goes into ground that has been checked.
